How to Spot and Stop Online Banking Scams
10/31/2025
Fraud is evolving, and scammers are finding new ways to trick consumers into giving away their money or information. At D.L. Evans Bank, our Digital Banking team is seeing several common scams targeting both individuals and businesses.
Zelle Fraud Alert
Scammers are targeting customers through fake online purchases, often for goods or pets. Sending money through Zelle is like handing over cash as it can’t be reversed.
Before sending funds, ask yourself:
- Do I personally know this person?
- What’s the payment for?
- Could this be a scam?
“We ask key questions to help customers identify scams before it’s too late,” says Edith Alvarez, D.L. Evans Bank Digital Banking Administrative Assistant.
Online & Business Banking Scams
Fraudsters may pose as bank employees through calls, texts, or emails. They might:
- Claim there’s fraud on your account.
- Ask you to download an app or share a one-time code.
- Request token information from business customers.
“Never share one-time codes or allow remote access to your devices,” warns Edith Alvarez, D.L. Evans Bank Digital Banking Administrative Assistant.
D.L. Evans Bank will never ask for your codes or remote access. Always contact the bank directly using the official number on our website.
Tips for Staying Safe
- Don’t click suspicious links.
- Don’t share personal info with someone you don’t know.
- Verify all suspicious calls, texts, or emails with your local branch.
